On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, a pivotal roundtable discussion took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, focusing on strengthening the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s (SLRCS) role in addressing humanitarian needs arising from migration and displacement. The meeting supported the SLRCS Strategic Plan for 2024-2030, specifically aligning with Strategic Objective of Restoring Family Links (RFL), Migration and Displacement Services.

Representatives from the SLRCS, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) participated in the event, both in-person and virtually. The discussion centered on defining SLRCS’ role, identifying priority activities, and developing a roadmap for resource mobilization and capacity building over the next six years.

Key outcomes included the agreement to create a “Migration and Displacement Road Map” and the formation of a SLRCS Technical Working Group on RFL, Migration and Displacement. This collaborative effort is set to strengthen the national response to humanitarian issues related to migration and displacement in Sri Lanka.
