Canadian High Commission Visits Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Flood Response Operations
Canadian High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and Maldives with our Beneficiaries
Amidst the relentless rain and rising floodwaters, the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Flood Response Operations have emerged as a beacon of hope across the island. Their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have been instrumental in providing relief to communities grappling with the devastating aftermath of the floods.
In a heartening display of solidarity and partnership, the High Commission of Canada, supported the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society through our longstanding partner, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
H.E. Eric Walsh, the esteemed High Commissioner to Canada in Sri Lanka and Maldives, accompanied by Linda Ehrichs, Head of Development Cooperation, and Wipula Dahanayake, Development Officer of the High Commission to Canada in Sri Lanka and Maldives, the delegation joined hands with dedicated colleagues from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and IFRC.
Their visit took them to the Ja-Ela Division of the Gampaha District, where they witnessed firsthand the impact of the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) operation. They connected with the beneficiaries whose lives have been touched by the compassionate outreach of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.
As they walked through the muddy lanes and listened to the stories of survival and resilience, bonds of empathy and understanding were strengthened. The visit not only underscored the vital role of humanitarian partnerships but also reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to stand shoulder to shoulder in times of adversity. The collaboration between the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the High Commission of Canada serves as a testament to the power of solidarity and collective action.
