The Red Cross Societies of China & Sri Lanka aims to strengthen humanitarian efforts
01/11/2016 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Red Cross Societies of China & Sri Lanka recently entered into an agreement to seek new avenues and better strengthen and coordinate humanitarian efforts in the island. This comes in the wake of an official visit by the Vice President of the Red Cross Society of China Haijing Wang to Sri Lanka. The visit aims at strengthening bilateral ties that has led towards many decades of fruitful relations between the two national societies.
Upon his arrival the Vice President of RCSC Haijing Wang met with the President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Jagath Abeysinghe. The discussions mainly focused on how better to coordinate humanitarian efforts in the face of adverse disasters. The Red Cross Society of China was one of the main supporters during the recent floods and landslide of May 2016 who assisted with funding and material support.
The four day visit will take the Vice President and his delegation to visit the SLRCS branches in Kandy and Galle and also to asses the current status of the tsunami projects that the RSCS was involved in.
A bilateral agreement of corporation will also be signed during the latter part of his visit.
