Sri Lanka Red Cross to raise funds for typhoon Haiyan victims
28/11/2013 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) will raise funds locally in order to support the victims of the recent typhoon Haiyan that slammed Philippines.
The President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe made the announcement at the National Headquarters raising the importance of standing with the Philippines Red Cross Society at their hour of need.
“We should be with our sister national societies, where ever around the world, to support them at their hour of need”
He further stated he remembers when Sri Lanka has been a victim of disasters and how important the support received from national societies in the world to deliver relief to affected Sri Lankans.
Meanwhile the Director General of SLRCS Tissa Abeywickrama stated that the Philippines Red Cross has aided us in many occasions and we should be with them in their hour of need. Also he said the Red Cross in Sri Lank has assisted other countries in times of disasters however a systematic process was in absent.
“With this fund raising for Philippines Red Cross in the wake of typhoon Haiyan, we are also establishing a permanent method of raising funds for disasters that occur across the globe.”
Meanwhile the public also can support this fund raising drive by donating your funds either directly to the Director General’s office at the National Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Red Cross 104, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 07 or crediting it to the specially opened bank account for this fund raising. Please mention “Haiyan Typhoon” when crediting the funds.
