Over 125 people receives medical assistance at Red Cross medical camp held in Colombo

The authorities have revised death toll of the terror attacks which occurred on Sunday 21st April 2019 in Sri Lanka to 253 as of 28th April 2019. 35 foreign nationals were among the deceased. Over and 500 people were injured due to this incident.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross society is continuously providing its relief services following the attack. SLRCS will address short term and long term needs of the people affected. It will cover areas such as Livelihood, Educational support, Unconditional cash grants and psycho-social support as well. 200 children will be benefited through this scholarship fund.

UPDATE 15 (09/09/2019)

Over 125 people received medical assistance at a medical camp held at Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, New Chetty Street, Colombo yesterday (9th September). Colombo Branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society conducted the medical camp. 03 medical Doctors, First Aiders and volunteers attached to the Colombo Branch attended the medical camp.

120 children in Gampaha district received scholarship grant which was set up by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to assist affected families of Easter Sunday attacks. 60,000.00 Rupees will be given annually to continue their studies through this scholarship fund.

UPDATE 13 (12/06/2019)

300 families affected due to the Easter Sunday Attacks received an unconditional cash grant of Rs. 9 million rupees as of 30th May 2019

UPDATE 12 (30/05/2019)

79 families affected due to the Easter Sunday Attacks received an unconditional cash grant worth Rs. 2.37 million rupees as of 30th May 2019. Recipients are from Batticoloa (55), Nuwara Eliya (09), Galle (01), Anuradhapura (01), Vavuniya (01), Badulla (07), Kurunegala (02), Kalutara (02) areas. Each family will receive a 30,000 LKR under this grant. 300 families to be received cash grants under this programme.

UPDATE 11 (28/05/2019)

The SLRCS handed over the final assessment report to the Minister of Public Administration and Disaster Management today. It was handed over to the minister by President of the SLRCS Mr. Jagath Abeysinghe. Director General of the SLRCS Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara briefed the minister about the relief efforts and programs placed to support the Easter Sunday Attack victims during the meeting.  The meeting was focused on enhancing Coordination and cooperation between the two institutions to support the victims.

UPDATE 10 (19/05/2019)

Over 300 victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks received medical assistance (ENT) at a medical camp held in Katuwapitiya area in Negombo today. This medical camp was organised by our Gampaha Branch together with Katuwapitiya St. Sebastian Church and the Katuwapitiya youth community.

It was supported by the ENT unit of the Base Hospital Negombo, Government institutions, private and many other non-governmental organisations as well.

UPDATE 9 (10/05/2019)

Today, President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Mr. Jagath Abeysinghe and Director General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara met Archbishop’s representative to share the Red Cross Need Assessment Report today. The Analysed information was briefed to Rev.Fr. Lawrence Ramanayake at the Archbishop’s House in Colombo Today. The meeting was aimed to enhance cooperation and coordination to conduct the programmes successfully.  The main objective was to make sure that the programmes we conduct was not being duplicated as many other organizations have come forward to support as well.

Paper advertisements was published in all three languages (Sinhala/Tamil/English) to collect information of the victims. Information was also gathered from other sources such as hospitals and other government institutions as well.

UPDATE 8 (30/04/2019)

  1. Our Gampaha Branch deployed 5 medical teams today as well (each team included a doctor, nurse, midwife, Red Cross volunteers and few counsellors) to provide further medical assistance to the injured victims of the Last Sunday’s terror attack.
  2. Our Batticaloa Branch field teams continued need assessments by visiting houses of the victims of Easter Sunday terror attack. Meanwhile. The President of the Sri Lanka Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Mr. Jagath Abeysinghe along with Director General of the SLRCS Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara visited Batticlaoa area today to look into the Red Cross operations and to discuss on providing longer term support for the affected families as well.

UPDATE 7 (29/04/2019)

  1. Red Cross teams continuing Needs Assessment process in the Colombo District today as well. The teams will record information of affected families in order to provide assistance to the affected families.
  2. Our Gampaha Branch deployed 5 medical teams (each team included a doctor, nurse, midwife, Red Cross volunteers and few counsellors) to provide further medical assistance to the injured victims of the Last Sunday’s terror attack. Today the team has visited 88 households and will continue the task tomorrow as well.Currently our Red Cross officers stationed at Gampaha Branch are compiling and analysing the beneficiary data collected during the need assessment conducted past few days within the Gampaha District.

 

 

UPDATE 6 (28/04/2019)

  1. Our Red Cross teams of the Batticaloa Branch conducting Need Assessments to determine the needs of the families who were affected by the terror attacks within the Batticaloa District today as well. As per our Batticaloa Branch team 17 injured victims are still receiving treatment at the Batticaloa hospital.
  2. Our Colombo Branch volunteers are supporting hospital authorities at the National Hospital in Colombo on body management task today as well (28th April 2019)

  

UPDATE 5 (27/04/2019)

Our Red Cross teams of the Colombo Branch are currently conducting Need Assessments in Colombo District to determine the needs of the families who were affected by the terror attacks. Our aim is to support the affected families according to their individual needs.

UPDATE 4 (25/04/2019)

Our Red Cross teams together with government officials are currently conducting Need Assessments in Katana, Negombo to determine the needs of the families who were affected by the attacks. We have deployed 04 teams to conduct the assessments.

UPDATE 2 (23/04/2019)

RFL (Restoring Family Links) Response

Our RFL unit (Restoring Family Links) has been continuously working on tracing the missing persons with the support from the authorities. SLRCS is supporting to restore contact among family members who have been separated as a result of these incidents. The SLRCS is proactively in contact with the patients in the hospital especially with foreigners to offer phone calls and tracing services for those who wants to reestablish contact with their loved ones. The SLRCS responded by deploying trained RFL volunteers.
