President of Sri Lanka commends First Aid service of Sri Lanka Red Cross
14/03/2017 – Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka: The President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena recently visited a first aid post of Sri Lanka Red Cross and commended the services rendered by Red Cross Volunteers to the country.
He reiterated the Government’s support to Sri Lanka Red Cross and its humanitarian endeavors.
President Sirisena was taking part in the “Awakening Pulasithi Youth for the Nation” programme organized by the Government of Sri Lanka in Polonnaruwa recently. The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Polonnaruwa branch was equipped to provide first aid for the event. The programme based on a concept by H.E the President, was aimed at developing Sri Lanka’s youth with qualities of leadership and personality capable of efficiently contributing to the betterment of the society. This is in par with Sri Lanka Red Cross Youth Empowerment programme which is currently being implemented in five districts of Sri Lanka.
During the event the President made a special visit to the first aid post and inquired about the current work of the Red Cross in the region. While in discussion with the Branch Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Red Cross Polonnaruwa branch Ms. Samanthi Wijekoon, the President assured the Government’s full cooperation and support towards Red Cross humanitarian activities across the nation.
