Continuing support for the flood affected people as the recovery phase progresses
21/07/2016 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) in partnership with Oxfam Sri Lanka distributed disinfection kits to over 500 families in Shalamulla, Kolonnawa today. This is part of the SLRCS Flood & Landslide Recovery and Reconstruction Operation. People living in this village are one of the worst affected in the Colombo district.
The disinfection kits provided contains toiletries, cleaning equipment, sanitary items that would allow households to ensure that their environment remains clean after the contamination by flood waters.
The distribution today took palace in Shalamulla with the participation of villagers, officials from SLRCS and Oxfam.
SLRCS continues to assure its commitment to the people who were affected by the recent floods and landslides in various parts of Sri Lanka. Steps are now being taken to draw up initial plans towards recovery and reconstruction. Several weeks back the SLRCS in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies also launched a 3.6 million dollar international appeal to ensure that people affected are taken care of.
These disinfection kits will also be distributed to 2000 households in the Colombo district and another 2000 households in the Gampaha district. Steps will also be taken to provide cooking utensils as well.
The SLRCS along with various of its partners has been providing stable support to people affected by the recent disaster and has made a commitment to ensure that the people affected will be brought back to normality.
