Empowering communities towards better resilience
21/05/2013 – Mannar, Sri Lanka: The Mannar Branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) recently vested in the public several facilities and services worth over two million Sri Lankan rupees. These were mainly invested on improving drinking water facilities by renovation of 8 common wells, also 1.5 million spent in Manthai west for improving personal health by construction of 34 new latrines.
The handing over ceremonies presided with the participation of the President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe, Head of Delegation of International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Bob McKerrow, Deputy Director General of SLRCS Sudath Madugalle and the Branch Executive Officer of the Mannar SLRCS Branch Rukshan Oswald.
These projects were in par with the SLRCS Integrated Programme for Community Resilience project.
In addition to above mitigation projects, IPCR initiates several activities under disaster management and Basic health, especially focusing on empowerment of the community by positive mind set changing process. For this year Sri Lanka Red Cross Society again allocated 1.5 million rupees for mitigation activities of above villages.
