More donations flow for Red Cross Nepal Earthquake Relief Assistance
12/05/2015 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: More donations flow into the fund established to gather financial support for earthquake relief and recovery work in Nepal after a 7.9 tremor killing over 8,100 and devastating the entire country.
Soon after the incident the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society in solidarity to its South Asian Partner the Nepal Red Cross began to provide support. However after in discussion it was evident that more than items that needs to be collected and sent, financial support would have helped Nepal Red Cross more as restrictions in clearing goods and other items and transporting it to difficult areas to reach victims would prove to be a challenge. In this backdrop the “Nepal Earthquake Relief Assistance Fund” was set up by Sri Lanka Red Cross.
Yesterday the Anjuman E Saifi Sri Lanka Trust, made a generous donation to the fund after collecting through its membership.
Officials of the Trust met with the President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Jagath Abeysinghe in order to hand over the cheque and to discuss about the current situation in Nepal.
“Generosity from donors like this will provide the financial and moral support needed to continue the relief and recovery efforts of the people who have suffered the massive earthquake recently in Nepal.” says the President.
” Donors support has played a key role in our success of this donation drive done on behalf of our partner in Nepal.”
