Red Cross donates ambulances to Eastern Hospitals
06/03/2013 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) today handed over 3 ambulances worth 28.5 million rupees to 3 hospitals in the Eastern Province.
Trincomalee General Hospital, Gomarankadawala Base Hospital & Padaviya Base Hospital are the recipients of this new ambulances.
The handover ceremony took place in Colombo today (06/03/2013) under the patronage of the President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe, Deputy Director General of SLRCS Sudath Madugalle & the Country Coordinator of German Red Cross Tim Bray.
Dr. E. Gunalan, who is the current Medical Superintendent of the Trincomalee General Hospital and also the Chairman of the SLRCS Trincomalee branch, accepted the donation from the President.
The German Red Cross along with the European Union in Sri Lanka supported the SLRCS in providing the ambulances, which were imported from Turkey.
The 3 hospitals are located in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and were prone towards disasters such as the tsunami. Gomarankadawala & Padaviya were areas that were in the midst of the conflict several years ago.
The SLRCS has continued to support the development of Health Care across the country soon after the tsunami and recently the conflict.
