Cyclone Fengal, which originated as a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, has wreaked havoc across Sri Lanka, impacting communities in 23 districts. Heavy rains, flash floods, and severe disruptions have affected 441,373 individuals and 137,598 families. The widespread disaster has underscored the urgent need for humanitarian support and disaster response.

The cyclone has compounded existing challenges, with roads submerged, essential services disrupted, and homes damaged or destroyed, leaving many displaced. Yet, amidst these challenges, the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) has stood as a beacon of hope, providing critical aid to those in need.

Local Branch Initiatives:

  • Deployed volunteers and BDRT (Branch Disaster Response Teams) in affected districts such as Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, and Ampara to deliver assistance and first aid.
  • Stationed volunteers at safe shelters to offer immediate care and support.
  • Relief supplies, including clean water, sanitary items, clothing, and other essential shelter materials
